Beyond Copying and Pasting – Building Integrated Technology Projects
Tammy Worcester
Building Blocks:
1. Collect Blocks:
Internet Search - Tammy’s website – Google search & tools(calculator, Powerpoint finder, dictionary, sounds)
2. Organize Blocks:
Inspiration Program (let’s students organize their thoughts and information by making numerous thinking maps – program will also make an outline from your thinking maps)
Wiki software VoodoPad for Mac
WikidPad for Windows
Spreadsheet – make charts & graphs with information
3. Build New Structure
Acrostic – instead of writing a report, create about topic using facts for each letter, do this on blank Powerpoint slide instead of Microsoft Word (much easier) using WordArt vertical choice
Post Card – students “visit” place, search internet and find picture, copy and past onto lefthand side of card, address to someone and include facts in your paragraph home, find stamp from country you “visited”
Hats Off! Tammy will do in next session
Point of View – students choose a concept (love, greed, anger) and look it from different points of view, use Inspiration program, What is Freedom? for dog: walking without leash, for big brother: not having a little sister around, for mom: locking the door and taking a bubble bath, for teacher: when the bell rings at the end of the day on Friday afternoon. Can use the Inspiration Map to write a report.
Who am I? Students make a slide show of clues of a famous person, students learn more than just writing a report, reveal a bit of the picture at a time by using Powerpoint – paste picture onto blank slide, decide how many clues you want to reveal and then use rectangle tool to cover the picture, change rectangle color to white and the border to white, then insert menu then duplicate slide click one of the rectangles and delete it, do the same for clue 3, then clue 4 by deleting a rectangle each time.

Hitchhikr – In changing times, we need to raise our heads out of the water every once in a while, take a drink of kool-aid, network, learn, and energize. Yet, we can’t always make it to the conferences we need to attend to mix with the people we need to see — face-to-face. This is why Hitchhikr was invented, to provide you with a virtual space where, thanks to blogs, podcasts, and RSS, we can connect, share, respond, and grow knowledge out beyond the place and time of the event. Here are some tutorials on how to tap into the emerging technologies that make Hitchhikr possible
