Removable caps

Recently, my technology director graciously purchased each of the county’s ITF’s 2 iPod shuffles. Since she also bought us a 30 mb iPod, I put the shuffle to the side and “played” with the big boy.

Yesterday, I had a need to use the shuffle. Now, I’m not one to run from embarrassment, but this was embarrassing. After cutting through all the adult-proof plastic, I finally got the little bugger out. Shuffle? check. Directions? check. Directions in 3 other languages that I’ll never speak? check. Cords? no. Cute little thing, but aren’t there supposed to be some cords or something? I mean, how in the world do you plug it into the computer??

I can hear giggles from those of you who own Shuffles. If you don’t, let me tell you the embarrassing part. On the tip of the Shuffle is a cap (on my behalf, I do have to say that it’s not seen that easily), but of course I didn’t see it. After several minutes of searching for the missing cords, I was about to give up and email my boss to tell her we’d been cheated, when I ran my finger over the end. Uh-oh, there’s a cap there. Guess what happened when I took the cap off? Yep, there’s the USB plug. That’s one of those times you look around and check to make sure there’s no one looking because you had thrown such a fit right before finding what you swore wasn’t anywhere near you. I was not a happy camper when I thought that the giant Apple had cheated little ol’ me and not sent a cord with my Shuffle.

I admitted this to my “friends” at our ITF meeting. Can you believe they laughed? Yep, and they’re my friends. The next time I’ll have one of the kids figure it out while I sit back and take the credit. From now on, that might be my strategy for all my new equipment.

Until next time ~ Danita

Trust me, they were laughs of understanding! The kind of “been there, done that” chuckle! I’m just glad you weren’t with me when I first hooked up my webcam! :)

If it makes you feel any better, we have all been there. I took up an iPod from a kid and since I had never held one, I began playing with it. Imagine my embarassement when I had to go into his computer class and ask him to turn it off. After that experience, I knew I had to learn to work one so I went out and purchased one. I love it and use it daily, but I still find myself going to Luke to ask for help at times.
