AA for Computer Geeks

Hello, my name is Danita and I haven’t been to the StumbleUpon site in 8 hours, 14 minutes, and 35 seconds. Since I’ve never been to an AA meeting, that is how I picture it beginning. At least, that’s what it’s like on TV.

I have found a new addiction. This new addiction is in small thanks to another blogger. My blog aggregator opened it a few days ago. I should have known as soon as the warning came across, this could be addicting, that I shouldn’t have entered the forbidden zone. But, noooo. I had to find out. My middle name might be Alice, as in Alice in Wonderland, as nosey as I am. As I recall, it didn’t turn out so well for our dear little Alice did it?

The site I’m talking about is actually an add-on for Mozilla. Mozilla is an awesome web browser. I was never a huge fan of Explorer anyway, but Mozilla is now my favorite. Fewer pop-ups and more cool widgets. I have a friend that swears Mozilla is new version of Netscape. But, I don’t care. I love it. Since I’m not getting paid, enough mushiness about Mozilla, let’s talk about StumbleUpon.

I’m unmercifully quoting from the Mozilla website: “StumbleUpon lets you “channelsurf” the best-reviewed sites on the web. It is a collaborative surfing tool for browsing, reviewing and sharing great sites with like-minded people. This helps you find interesting webpages you wouldn’t think to search for. ”

So what you say? Well, remember I did say it was addicting.

When you go into StumbleUpon, it asks you to choose topics that interest you. After that, the program will find a random website that matches your interests everytime you choose the Stumble! button. Let me tell you, I have found some pretty interesting sites. Few of the sites had I seen before; almost all of them were new to me.

Someone on the StumbleUpon webpage had a testimony that I could have written:

EVIL ADDICTIVE SOFTWARE. I LIKE IT.

This has changed my internet behavior – instead of going to the same few sites, I’ll click on Stumble for hours. It is a colossal time waster and I love it. Reminds me of using the web years ago when it was more about exploring than ads.

I hate to admit it, but I too have been at home in front of my computer playing working for too many hours with this new program. I have to make myself not go there while I’m at work or else I could be sitting in the same spot when tomorrow morning comes. Got your interest piqued yet? Well remember, I tried to warn you not to go……

It’s now been 8 hours, 38 minutes, and 13 seconds since I’ve been on the site. I’m beginning to get the shakes. Guess I know what I’m doing tonight ….

Until next time ~ Danita

All I have to say is, your poor, poor, husband. Now I’ve got to sign off so I can check out StumbleUpon! I know, I’ve been warned!
