I’ve been tagged
I thought I could run, but I found out I couldn’t hide. I was tagged, twice, by Mr. H of Making It Interesting. While I wasn’t really blowing off the tag, I was thinking what I could include for my 5 things you don’t know about me. There are several things, but I do like to keep some secrets in my life…
For those of you unfamiliar with what I’m talking about , there’s a game of tag going on in the edublogsphere (how about that word!). It’s similar to the real life game of tag, but in this game, you write 5 things that your readers might be interested in learning about you and then tag 5 others.
Okay, I’ll bite:
1). I originally went to college to be a high school band director, then a doctor, then changed to be a radiologist, then decided I wanted to be a vet, and finally a high school math teacher. After struggling through taking Calculus II, I decided that middle school math would be just fine thank you very much. No wonder it took me 9 years to get my BS! After all that, my first teaching position was teaching 6th grade social studies. Go figure!
2). While at the school of education at the University of Louisville, my adviser suggested that I change majors (yet again!) from education to counseling because my grades weren’t the best. Okay, I admit, I was trying to work full-time, play softball 5 nights a week, date full-time, and go to school full-time. Guess which one took a back seat?? Now, if you know me, you know that all that person did was make me a tad bit mad (madder than a hornet if you want to know the truth!). That bit of advice inspired me to go on and win the Joe Wilkes Outstanding Student Teacher Award for secondary student teachers. I won over 300 other students! You better believe that I searched for that adviser on graduation day and made sure she knew what I had accomplished!
3). I am an only child who was always daddy’s little tom boy. I played softball until nearly 30 - and have 2 destroyed knees to show for it - and high school basketball. Well, big deal you say. Did I mention that I am only 5 feet tall? Do you know how hard it is to dribble a ball past someone who is a foot taller than you?? No small feat - pun intended!
4). I play several musical instruments. I began in 6th grade on clarinet (I made a deal with my mom that if I didn’t make cheerleader I would take band - wonder if she had anything to do with me not making cheerleading??). In high school, my band director decided we had too many clarinets and made several of us move to different instruments. I chose alto sax. I went to the Saxophone Institute at the University of Louisville my sophomore, junior, and senior years. That was a huge honor! Now, I continue to be involved in music by directing my church’s orchestra and playing in the church school pep band.
5). I have been married to the most wonderful man in the world for 6 fabulous years. He allows me to indulge in this obsession I have with the Internet without complaining. Did I mention that we met in a chatroom? Yep, it’s a rather long story, so the next time we’re out somewhere let me tell you the story. We were truly brought together by God. Who else would have been able to find these people - one from Louisville and the other from Atlanta and keep them together and happy?
Now that I’ve done my part, I’m tagging these 5 lucky people…
Mrs. Durff, Ms-Teacher, Ms Cofino, Kim C, and Laura
Until next time ~ Danita

[...] Was going to continue with my New Year’s Resolution to blog more, and answer the meme tag from Danita. Having read the “big guys’” (guys to Yankees includes women!) answers to the very popular meme circulating the blogosphere, I tried not to curse when I got the tag! But that will have to wait another day. [...]

Your writing conveys a lot of emotion and energy. I would love to hear what you have planned for technology this semester in middle school. Looking forward to your future posts.
