NCETC Podcasting and Webcasting

I attended my first session of the NCETC conference this morning. It was hosted by Dr. Chris Withrow, the technology director from Warren County Schools in North Carolina.

While I was intrigued with the title, I didn’t walk away with the experience I had hoped. We spent a great deal of time hearing about podcasting and a little bit about webcasting. We didn’t have near enough time to “play”; only about 30 minutes. Dr. Withrow did a great job by having handouts that were “teacher friendly” – especially for those of us who are new to the web2.0 revolution. He had cd’s prepared for us to take so that when we get back to our schools we can download the information from the session.

The highlight was the group of three 7th grade students who produced a podcast while we were in the session. They were very mature and handled a roomful of teachers with ease. The students illustrated how to compose a podcast and actually showed us with Garageband.  Super easy!
I still have a few “thinkaboutits” in my head after the session. If we have disposed of all our Macs, how can we use Audacity to the fullest since Garageband seemed so easy? Will Apple share its Garageband program with the PC world? How can I entice my teachers to jump on the podcasting bandwagon?

Tomorrow I have a session on wikis with David Warlick. I am excited about the possibilities of what I will learn.

Until next time ~ Danita
